Brno Circuit’s new record: 1,349 motorbikes on the track

Karel Abraham 2012

The Brno Circuit, one of MotoGP venues, is a fresh “record holder”. In an attempt to set a new record, there were 1,349 motorcycles on the track on Sunday. The usual maximum capacity of the track was exceeded 21 times. This event was inspired by a similar event held in the fall of 2011, which was the motorbike enthusiasts’ tribute to the late Marco Simoncelli. The record-breaking motorcade was led by Simoncelli’s fellow MotoGP rider Karel Abraham and Czech Moto3 rider Jakub Kornfeil.

“I have to thank everyone. I am glad so many people came even though the weather was far from perfect; the air temperature was only around 8 degrees Celsius. There were even some participants from abroad,” says Ivana Ulmanová, Executive Director of the Brno Circuit.

The participating bikers formed a motorcade on the track. It was almost as long as the track itself, i.e. 5,403 metres. At the end of the second lap the riders in the lead, i.e. racers Karel Abraham and Jakub Kornfeil and stuntman Pepa Šiler, could see the very end of the motorcade. “I think the outcome is amazing. This was one of the first opportunities for bikers to get together after winter. The Brno Circuit is one of the best venues for such purposes,” Karel Abraham said appreciatively. Aside from street motorcycles there were scooters, mopeds or classic Czech-made Jawa bikes…

Members of Karel Abraham’s fan club were in charge of counting the participants. Each participant was given a special sticker with the logo of the Brno Circuit. The exact number of bikers was determined based on the actual number of stickers issued. “We hope that many of them will keep it attached the whole season. And I hope that we will see many of them again and again during this season,” Ivana Ulmanová added.
