AGP Racing Mugello Review: Nakagami Seventh, Corti Ninth

Takaaki Nakagami Mugello 2012

A weekend really hard to define, and that experienced the worst day on Saturday when, during qualifying, the team was unable to get a result rewarding for the work done, the energies used, the expectations.

On Sunday morning, in the warm-up, the team has nevertheless raised its head, with Claudio fourth, two-tenths off the best time, and Takaaki seventh, just over three tenths. It was a sign that the GP of Italy could change direction. But, once again, the mechanism jammed. At least in part. While Takaaki had a good start, passing riders and getting at a point the leadership of the race, Claudio Corti was forced instead to an off due to a maneuver by an opponent. He rejoined the race in 30th position, and ended in 9th.

A comeback you do not see that often, that left the team uncertain about whether let prevail surprise for the performance, or anger because the effort could not led where it should. Claudio’s fastest lap, clocked at lap 3, was bettered only at the sixteenth. He lapped constantly to the rhythm of the first ones. Back on track with a delay of 24 seconds, crossed the finish line with a gap almost halved. As he himself said, after the race, “there are no more excuses: we must win.”

Takaaki Nakagami (39’56 “948 -7th ) ” For the first time in a Moto2 race, I found myself leading it. A great feeling. Other times I had a good start, but never like this. All things have come easily. I had a big advantage over all guys on the brakes, and suffered just at the end, when the front tire was very bad. This was the team’s home Grand Prix, and also mine, in a way. I’m very happy that I had the first taste of a first position right here. ”

Claudio Corti (40’05 “340 – 9 th) ” I was resolute – I wanted to win. And after being forced to run wide and re-join almost in last position, I said to myself: let’s have fun. I have been supported by an outstanding team work. I know: no more excuses. I must win ”
