The sun has finally arrived on the Adriatic coast and the track of the Marco Simoncelli circuit of Misano has dried for today’s two sessions.
The Frenchman Johann Zarco has consistently improved his feeling with his MotoBI being able to progressively reduce his time, but a crash at the end of the qualifying session stopped his run-up to the premier positions on the grid for tomorrow. His time of 1'39.114” eventually earned him the 15th position, which will require a test of determination if he is to win through to the lead pack.
Johann Zarco:
“This Saturday ended badly because I crashed in qualifying. This morning we were able to run with slick tyres and get some early feedback, this afternoon all riders took to the track very determined just like I did. We still had some problems that slowly my engineers were able to fix, in the last ten minutes I rode alone to feel better with the adjustments applied to my MotoBI and try for the good time, I felt it possible because I have good feedback from the bike. Unfortunately at turn 13 I got overwhelmed by the desire to improve and I pushed too hard on the brakes, so I lost the front. Telemetry confirmed that I have gone over the limit too much and I would like to apologise to the team for this. We are in 15th place but if you look at the times we are all pretty close, I think there is still room to improve my braking that would be useful to recover some positions in the race, as well as by making a good start. I'm working very hard to get to the podium, we see that we are close but it’s not easy even though I'm trying with all my might.”
