More changeable weather conditions made things difficult for Team JiR's riders today during qualifying for tomorrow's German Grand Prix and Moto2 race.
Despite youngster Eric Granado still getting to grips with only his second time on Dunlop wet tyres at the end of the session he slashed seconds of his best lap time. Meanwhile his team-mate Johann Zarco was making good progress in the wet conditions but struggled to find a good rear tyre for when conditions began to dry a little. Both riders will be hoping for consistent weather tomorrow – whether wet or dry – and a good start to the race. Pole position went to Spaniard Marc Marquez.
Johann Zarco
"I am a little angry today as when it was wet we could be near the front and I was improving my MotoBI step-by-step. Then for my last run as the track was drying we chose a rear tyre but I found I was sliding around a lot. This really affected my corner speed and I couldn't get on the throttle as early as I would have liked. This made things very difficult, but the wet was good for us. We need now to go back and speak to the mechanics and try to understand what the issues are. Let's hope for a good race tomorrow. I will be trying 100%"
Eric Granado
"This morning was really good in FP3 and we made some good steps forward and then in qualifying things were so-so because of the weather once more – it was wet! At first I didn't have a good feeling with my MotoBI, purely down to me still getting used to the Dunlop wets – I've only ridden on them twice, I think. I came in to look at the telemetry to look at my laps and then came out and did my final few laps where I went two or three seconds faster, giving me my best qualifying result yet in my short World Championship career! Now I am looking forward to tomorrow's race."
