Both Team JiR riders worked hard on setting up their MotoBI machines in today's first sessions for the Indianapolis Moto2 race.
Johann Zarco spent today on used tyres in a bid to get used to the conditions that occurred last year in the Moto2 race. The Frenchman wanted to get used to his MotoBI sliding from the rear and see how consistently he could lap, hence he was not near the top of the time sheets. Brazilian youngster Eric Granado has spent time during the summer vacation watching recordings of previous races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but today was spent getting used to the track from his own perspective aboard his own MotoBI machine. Both riders will be aiming for big improvements tomorrow.
Johann Zarco
"I'm not so happy as we are far from the front in the classification, but there is a reason for this. Speaking to my mechanic we know that fresh tyres would help a lot to make a better lap time. I used old tyres today, as we have tried to set the MotoBI up on old tyres, which is important for the race. I need to get used to riding the bike on used tyres and get used to how the rear slides. So, tomorrow morning we will continue like this. I would like to be able to be in the 1m 45.2 or 45.0 bracket consistently on used tyres, but we will see. Last year how the Moto2 bikes behaved on used tyres was important to the result of the race, so that is why we have gone in this direction."
