Mapfre Aspar rider Toni Elías set about solving his front end problems in this morning's session although his programme was set back by an untimely crash on his seventh lap. His engineers were able to fix the bike and afford him two more laps, which proved important given the dramatic change in conditions over lunchtime. Nico Terol made a strong start this morning but was held up by traffic, before using the afternoon to build his confidence in the wet conditions.
17th Toni Elías 1.26.247 (23 laps): “We have changed our approach a little bit this weekend and we're trying some new things to solve our front grip problems. I have just got no feeling for the front so we're trying everything we can to solve it. We have improved a little even though the lap times are not showing it yet. It was a strange day because I didn't get as many laps in as I would have liked this morning, partly due to a crash. The team did a great job to repair the bike and get me back on track but with the rain this afternoon we didn't get chance to confirm the improvements to the front end. Hopefully we get the right conditions tomorrow.”
21st Nico Terol 1.26.410 (40 laps): “I made a strong start this morning and I was very determined but didn't manage to put a single lap together at the end. I am in 21st place but happy because a small improvement would lift us a long way up the timesheets. It was a bit of a strange session this afternoon because because of the weather. We went out with a dry setting but wet tyres and my feeling was good, I think we have a decent base setting if we get wet conditions again.”
