The young Team Italia riders thus got a chance to make some experience on a wet track, refining their riding skills. The start of the race was delayed due to a downpour, but the race ended in dry conditions.
Alessandro Tonucci showed a strong comeback, climbing his way back form the 26th position on the grid but barely missing points as he closed 16th. He was consistent in the wet, lapping with times close to those of the frontrunners in the end and preceding Viñales, Webb and Oliveira in the end.
Fenati had a chance to learn, closing in 24th position and posting the second-best lap (1'36.917) at the very end.
Sandro Cortese won the race ahead of Masbou and Salom, and is now the championship leader. Fenati still leads among the rookies. Next race is on July 15 in Mugello.
Alessandro Tonucci (Team Italia FMI FTR Honda#19) 16th, + 1'10.640 behind
"The weather was against us today. At first it poured rain, then the sun came out. I tried to stay focused while fighting with Ajo, Grotzkyj and Viñales, but it wasn't easy. We'll be back on track in a few days, this time in Italy, and I'll be even more motivated."
Romano Fenati (Team Italia FMI FTR Honda#5) 24th, + 1 lap
"It was a tough week-end for us in the rain. As soon as the track started to dry, I improved my lap times immensely. Still, I've learned so much in Germany. I want to thank the team, which supported me throughout, and my mind goes to Mugello, a track that I love and can't wait to race on."
