Johann Zarco took part in another exciting race as he did his best to claw his way from the middle of the busy Moto2 pack further up into the points. The Frenchman spent practice getting used to worn tyres on his MotoBI machine and this paid dividends with the 22-year-old being able to run consistent lap times. Zarco finished the race in 12th position, but was almost within striking distance of a top 10 finish but sadly it wasn't to be. Still, the experience has given the Team JiR rider more heart and further experience for the next race at Brno, next weekend.
Meanwhile his young team-mate Eric Granado did his best to keep his performance throughout the race, but found it difficult to stay with the much more experienced riders ahead of him. Although he showed good improvements in his lap times he now need to work harder to find more consistency for the whole race.
The race was won in convincing fashion by series leader Marc Marquez.
Johann Zarco
"I'm happy enough because we made a good race from start to finish: I was strong enough in the early corners even though it was quite hard in the group as there were a lot of riders barging into each other. Finally I was able to break away and I never gave up. The pace in the race was quite good, even when the tyres were going off I had a good feeling and was sliding the bike while still being consistent. I know I finished 12th, but I was fighting for 10th position and towards the end of the race eighth position was not too far in front of me. I was battling with Andrea Iannone, Simone Corsi and Esteve Rabat, but like Mugello something was not so good with our straightline speed and I had problems fighting with Rabat down the straights. We will now look at this and I will aim to improve in time for next weekend's race."
Eric Granado
"I felt the race wasn't too bad for me today, but it could have been better. I had a good start then on the third or fourth lap I was with a big group and I stayed with them for a while and I could lap around the same time consistently. Then I think the race for me wasn't so good as my objective is to go with the group to improve but I stay with them, so I'm disappointed. This weekend I have had issues with my left arm and during the last laps I felt it difficult to do good times so I stayed in the position in which I finished. So now I do some preparation for Brno which looks like a good track and I will do my best again."
