Federal Oil Gresini Review Moto2 Jerez Test Day 2

The Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 and Xavier Siméon continued today at Jerez Circuit  their work in preparation for the 2014 season: after missing Almeria and Valencia testing sessions, Simeon was back in action only yesterday, and completed almost 100 laps today, finding at the end of the day a good set-up of his 2014 Suter. 1’43”387 his best lap of the day, which lowers by almost a second the lap time obtained yesterday.

As happened in the previous tests on Spanish soil, even in Jerez Lorenzo Baldassarri continued to show a steady improvement: the Italian, 56 laps for him today, set a great 1’43”598, making him one of the fastest Moto2 “rookies” on track.

Action will resume tomorrow for the third and final day of testing at the Andalusian track.

“It’s been a very useful day of testing, because we found a good set-up from which to start tomorrow. Unfortunately, at the beginning my feeling during acceleration was bad and my lap times were always the same, either with new tyre or used. We can certainly do better, and tomorrow we'll try to do it!”.

Gresini Moto2 Review Almeria Moto2 Test

The first test of 2014 at Almeria has not started in the best way for Xavier Siméon and Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2. This morning, after only a few laps, the Belgian rider suffered a fall in which he reported several wounds on his face. Siméon was taken to the hospital, where the analisys have fortunately ruled out fractures or further complications. The recovery of Siméon, who tomorrow will not resume testing, remains yet to evaluate.

The activity on track is therefore continued with the only Lorenzo Baldassarri, of Team Gresini Moto2: the Italian rode the 2014 Suter machine, setting a best time of 1'38"7.

Baldassari will be back on track tomorrow for the second and final day of testing.

Go&Fun Honda Gresini Review Valencia MotoGP Test Day 3

Alvaro Bautista took the opportunity on the final day of post-season testing at Valencia to evaluate Honda's 2014 prototype, although his track time with the new machine was limited due to a crash at the start of his second run. After that setback the Spaniard went back to the 2013 version to concentrate on developing a new suspension package brought to the test by Showa, completing 58 laps as the team signed off until preseason testing gets underway at Sepang in February 2014.

“We were supposed to spend the whole day working on the 2014 bike but unfortunately on my second run I lost the front without warning and crashed. From that point we decided to get back out on the old bike and do some more work with the new front forks and rear shock that we already started yesterday. We found some positive things in corner entry but the feeling was worse on the exit so we need to keep working. We will have a lot of work to do at Sepang if we want to be competitive for the start of the new season.”

Go&Fun Honda Gresini Review Valencia MotoGP Test Day 1

Scott Redding took his first laps on board the Honda RCV1000R for the GO&FUN Honda Gresini Team today. The young English rider made 34 laps of the Valencia circuit and mainly dedicated his time to picking up confidence with the new machine after having stepped up from the distinctly different Moto2 class. Straight away a good relationship has been struck between the team’s technicians and HRC to create a solid foundation on which they intend to build further tomorrow.

“It was an important day for me and I am delighted to have made my debut on the RCV1000R for GO&FUN Honda Gresini. Comparing the Moto2 to the RCV1000R is easy; they are completely different! It’s another story altogether, so because of that I was trying to pick up confidence slowly but surely. It was also good to begin work with the team, who have been very professional. I’d say overall it was a positive experience. It’s a shame my physical condition isn’t perfect yet, but working methodically and without pushing too much I can do it. Tomorrow I will try to improve my ‘relationship’ with this powerful new bike, as well as getting used to working closely with the new group.”

Thitipong Warokon to Replace Wilairot at Indy

After considering their options for several races Honda Thailand took the decision following the most recent round of the Moto2 World Championship at Sachsenring to replace Team Honda Thai Gresini Moto2 rider Ratthapark Wilairot with his Thai compatriot Thitipong Warokorn for the foreseeable future.

It has been a difficult period for Wilairot, who has struggled for confidence and concentration this season, prompting Honda Thailand to offer him a period of rest in order to recover his motivation for MotoGP. Warokorn is 24 years of age and currently competes in the Asian Championship. He will make his Moto2 World Championship debut this weekend at the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Alvaro Bautista Completes Assen Race in Seventh

The end result may not have been spectacular for Alvaro Bautista and Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini, but the main goal of completing the Dutch TT was achieved. After two DNFs at Mugello and Barcelona, the Spaniard was looking t o take the chequered flag at Assen, and did so with seventh place –despite a rear brake issue midway through the race. Bryan Staring also had difficulties, but was able to gain experience and conclude the contest in 21st.

"We finished the race, and this was above all the main goal of this weekend. It’s a small consolation, but after two setbacks this was very important. In the race I didn’t have a perfect feeling with the bike, because it was unstable and moving around a lot. Unfortunately, with the weather conditions being so variable we did not have the time required to find the best setup. At first I tried to stay calm by getting heat into the tyres, trying not to take excessive risks. Maybe I lost a bit too much time then, and later from the middle of the race I had problems with the rear brake and I could not slow down as well as I would have liked. It took a few laps to be able to adapt to the situation, and after that I tried to finish in the best possible way. It was not really a good race but it was important to finish, in order to think about the future with greater serenity."

"I was convinced that I could do much better. For a while I battled as part of the group but then I was not consistent enough until the end. For this reason I am a little disappointed with my performance. It’s further experience but I would have preferred to end it with a different result. However, I’ve learnt some important things that I hope to put into practice in future races.”

"After two races that we could not finish, the good thing today was that we completed the distance. Of course, the result does not really satisfy us, but we must also bear in mind that for over half of the race Alvaro had a problem with the rear brake that affected him a lot. Last Lap Crash for Wilairot at Catalunya

Ratthapark Wilairot crashed out of the Catalan Grand Prix on the final lap today, losing control of his Suter machine after losing all feeling in his right foot. It is important for the Thai rider to put this behind him quickly and not lose confidence with an important couple of races coming up before the summer break.

Pradita Just Outside Top Twenty

Doni Tata Pradita narrowly missed out on a top twenty finish in a difficult race in Barcelona. The Moto2 World Championship rookie battled hard as usual but he has struggled to get to grips with the Circuit de Catalunya and was unable to turn his fortunes around in time for the race.

Positive Progress for Pradita at Mugello

After carefully studying his telemetry data Doni Tata Pradita made up two seconds off his best lap time at Mugello this afternoon to close the gap on the top twenty positions in qualifying. Once again the Indonesian rider has shown his determination and his willingness to learn from his experienced team, raising hopes of even more improvements in tomorrow's race.

“I am delighted because I have really made progress with my lap time today. My feeling with the bike is good but the best thing was the fact that I was able to get behind some fast riders and really learn the secrets of Mugello. Satisfactory First Day for Go&Fun Gresini Moto3 at Mugello

Despite a crash apiece it was a positive first day for Team GO&FUN Gresini Moto3 Niccolo Antonelli and Lorenzo Baldassarri at their home Grand Prix. Antonelli was on the pace but slipped off when trying to avoid a bump whilst Baldassarri also showed positive signs despite his misfortune. Both Team GO&FUN Gresini Moto3 riders are confident that they have a good feeling around their home circuit though and they are looking forward to qualifying tomorrow.

Niccolò Antonelli (8th 2’ 01.080 ) 

“I was really annoyed to crash because of the bump because I was setting a fast pace and I was sure I could have gone quicker - my split times up to that point proved it. It's a shame but I am satisfied because I felt good on the bike. Obviously we need to keep working but I am confident because I ran with some of the fast guys today and I know I can set their pace.”

Lorenzo Baldassarri (23rd 2’ 02” 001) 

“Today didn't go badly in the end despite the crash, which we didn't want. It was really important this afternoon to evaluate the bike set-up and it felt good. I was pushing hard, maybe too hard because I lost the front and crashed, which was a shame. It was important to get back out there after the crash and improve my lap time because that gives me confidence for tomorrow and Sunday.”

“They both did a good job despite the crashes today. There is a very positive atmosphere in the team and that gives me confidence. The signs are encouraging, especially for us at our home Grand Prix, which is an important race anyway but particularly because we want it to be the turning point in the season.”

Bautista and Starring Look to Tomorrow

Progress was slow on the opening day of the Italian Grand Prix for Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini after a rain-hit morning session meant that the riders only had one full dry session on track. During the time spent on the bike Alvaro Bautista struggled to get comfortable and needs to make some major steps in tomorrow's final free practice before qualifying takes place in the afternoon, whilst Bryan Staring needs track time purely to find his way around a notoriously technical track that he is discovering for the first time.

Alvaro Bautista (11th 1’ 49” 733 ) 

“I am not really happy because we didn't get much track time this morning and then in the afternoon I struggled for confidence on the bike. We are lacking front stability under braking and the rear traction wasn't the best either in corner entry or exit. Obviously it seems the Yamaha is a more competitive package here but we are still a long way behind the other Hondas. We will work hard to improve the situation tomorrow.”

Bryan Staring (24th 1’ 54” 231) 

“This is another new track for me so it hasn't been easy today, made even harder by the fact we only really had one full session. We need to be patient though and look ahead to building on what we have learnt today in the two sessions tomorrow.”

Fausto Gresini 

“It was a strange day and unfortunately it didn't go to plan for us. We are not far off the second group even though the position isn't the best. However I am confident and I think that if we work well we can close the gap tomorrow. We need to because this is a very important Grand Prix to us and it hasn't gone well for the past few years. We have to believe in ourselves, and we do.”

Home Race Fever for Go&Fun Honda Gresini Team at Mugello

After a difficult race at Le Mans that took place in variable weather Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini this week heads to its home Grand Prix at Mugello. It's always an important round for Fausto Gresini's team, which has its headquarters close to the circuit, but for Alvaro Bautista it also represents a big opportunity to score a top result on the back of a positive performance in France. Recent technical progress and constant set-up improvements have given Alvaro more confidence with the bike and thanks to the tireless work from Showa's suspension staff there is plenty of optimism within the team going into an important run of races before the summer break. Bryan Staring continues to work hard to develop the team's CRT bike whilst also getting used to the unique demands of MotoGP and a host of new circuits. It is no easy task for the rookie Australian but his work ethic is relentless and he is determi ned to produce a result for the team in their home GP.

Alvaro Bautista 

“We had a really good feeling for the bike at Le Mans even though the conditions were particularly difficult in the race. We found a good wet setting and in general the team did a very good job, especially considering the fact that we were working off data from a less than perfect weekend last year there. This year we found a good feeling and were setting lap times in line with the guys who finished on the podium and even though I am still having some problems getting the bike out of the corners we are making good progress with the bike in general. I have stepped up my physical training programme this week and enjoyed a really good weekend for my riders in the Spanish Championship - Maria Herrera, Dani Saiz and Juanjo Nunez - with Maria scoring her first win. Mugello is a completely different circuit to Le Mans. It is technical, fast, with various changes in direction and elevation. It will be important to stay focused and do a good job from the first minute to the last to make sure that we bury the memory of a bad weekend last year. I am determined to get a good result and and I know this is a special Grand Prix for the team because it is their home race.”

Bryan Staring 

“There should be a fantastic atmosphere at Mugello because this is the home race for Team Go&FUN Honda Gresini. I want to put the result from Le Mans behind me as quickly as possible and in order to do that I need to work hard from the first session to learn the layout and make progress with the bike set-up. It is another new circuit for me but on paper the layout looks exciting. I really want to have a good race here and close down the gap to the points-scoring positions.”

Fausto Gresini 

“After a positive race for Alvaro at Le Mans we go to the home race for Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini, where it will be important for us to confirm our recent form with another determined and hard-working weekend. The feeling with the Showa suspension is improving from race to race and this excellent technical relationship we have with them is improving the bike and giving Alvaro more and more confidence. Our home Grand Prix is always a special occasion for the team and it will be important for our riders to perform in front of an Italian crowd. Alvaro is Spanish of course but he loves the Italian fans and I am sure he will do everything he can to give them something to shout about. Bryan is also looking forward to the race and the motivation is there for him to put Le Mans behind him. He is making progress and the weekend in France will serve as a learning experience that will ultimately help him to improve.”

Ratthapark Wilairot Wantas to Regain at Mugello

Ratthapark Wilairot heads to Mugello this weekend still feeling bitter about his misfortune at Le Mans but with the determination to turn his luck around at the team's home Grand Prix. The Thai rider has shown flashes of his potential this season but after four rounds he has yet to pick up a result to show for his efforts. Hopefully Mugello can be the weekend that he finally shows his true level.

Ratthapark Wilairot 

“I know I can be fast and a consistent points scorer in this class but for one reason or another I haven't managed it so far this season. I felt pretty down after Le Mans because I was determined to finish the race but ended up hitting a damp patch and going down. Mugello is another important weekend for me and I will try my best to enjoy it. I have been training hard on my pushbike and working in the gym because I really want to come away from Mugello with a good result for me, the team and the friends I have coming to watch."

Fausto Gresini 

“Feem is becoming a bit of an enigma. He is fast but he is not turning his speed into results and maybe just needs one to turn things around. He has the potential to target the points but seems to struggle just at the crucial moment. Mugello could be just the right opportunity for him to turn it around and I believe he can do it.”

Doni Tata Pradita Excited to Race at Mugello

After a positive result at Le Mans two weeks ago Doni Tata Pradita is looking forward to the next race of the season at Mugello with extra enthusiasm. The Indonesian rider knows that he is gradually adapting to the demands of the Moto2 World Championship and if he can keep going like this he can soon be joining the battle for points.

“I am extremely excited to be racing in Italy at my team's home track and the first objective here is to improve on the result from Le Mans. The track is wonderful but it is not easy and I will have to focus on learning the best line. After that we can move onto the set-up, which will be very important to get right here, but if we can keep progressing like we have been doing then we can soon start fighting for points, which would be nice for me and all my Indonesian fans and sponsors.”

“Doni continues to make progress thanks to his great determination and humility. He is closing in on the points and I am sure that this weekend at Mugello he can produce another good performance and take another step forward at the team's home track.
