Thomas Luthi Succesful Surgery, No Return Date

Thomas Luthi Valencia Moto2 Test

After a crash at the Valencia circuit last weekend during the Moto2 test, Thomas Luthi moved to the Valencia’s "9th of October" hospital and suspected multiple and complicated fractures in his right upper arm, elbow and shoulder.

Luthi finally picked up by a jet and went to Zurich to get surgery with the team from Dr. Marc Metzler. After a five-hours surgery, Thomas Luthi declared succeess and can expect a full recovery.

Anyway, there are still no update about the recovery time needed. Thomas Luthi will miss the Jerez test tomorrow and maybe first race at Qatar also.

Daniel M. Epp - Team owner
"This accident was very, very unlucky. But the initial report of the doctors after surgery took a big weight of our shoulders since Tom will, in all likelihood, recover completely from his injuries. At the moment, this is all that counts!"

Successful surgery for Colin Edwards

Colin Edwards Estoril 2012

The NGM Mobile Forward Racing rider Colin Edwards underwent surgery earlier today at the Insitituto Universitario DEXEUS in Barcelona. Dr. Javier Mir and his team performed the surgery earlier this afternoon and lasted approximately two hours. Doctor Mir had previously treated Edwards of the injuries he sustained during a free practice session at the Catalunya Grand Prix last season.

Tomorrow the doctor will reexamine Edwards and will determine the estimated recovery time needed in order to see the Texas Tornado back on his Suter-BMW. He will most likely remain at the hospital until his expected return to the USA this Wednesday.

Javier Mir, M.D.
“The MotoGP rider Colin Edwards was operated of a fracture on his left clavicle, the bone was broken in 5 pieces and required the insertion of a titanium plate with ten screws. The surgery performed was successful and he will be able to begin rehabilitation/physical therapy within a week. He will remain in the Instituto Universitario DEXEUS in Barcelona for now.”

Colin Edwards – MotoGP rider
“Doctor Mir and his team have done a great job. They were the ones that took care of me the last time. The surgery was really quick. I’m feeling great, still a little dizzy from the anesthesia but feeling all right. They put a block on the side of my neck so its feeling a little numb. I’m here watching TV and tweeting. Just want to let everyone know I’m ok!”

NGM Mobile Forward Racing Team will not be racing at Estoril

Colin Edwards Estoril 2012

Colin Edwards was involved in a crash this afternoon during the qualifying session with Randy De Puniet. Luckily for the French man he was able to walk away from the incident and has been declared “fit to race”. (see the picture here )

After the crash Colin Edwards was taken to the Circuits clinic and was taken care of by Dr. Sarmiento and his team. He was under observation after the accident and has finally been release to leave the clinic.

Unfortunately the American rider was not so lucky and will have to fly tomorrow (today) to Barcelona in order to have surgery on his left collarbone. The surgery will most likely be performed by Dr. Javier Mir on Monday.

Kornelis Veldeman – Crew Chief
“We solved a few problems that we had this morning. We did a few laps on old tires and when we changed to the news tires. With the old tires he already improved the lap time from the fasted one he made this morning. The bike seemed to feel good for him and its just a shame to finish the weekend like this with such an unfortunate crash.”

Marco Curioni – Managing Director
“Our main concern is Colin´s wellbeing. We are hoping he will have surgery performed on Monday by Dr. Javier Mir in Barcelona and this is our main concern. The only positive outcome of today would be that the difficulties encountered during this morning’s free practice were solved and during qualifying unfortunately he wasn’t able to get in his fast lap.”
