West battles hard for 17th place, Sucipto achieves a safe race finish

QMMF Racing Team rider Anthony West battled hard in the Moto2 Grand Prix of Indianapolis, but missed out on world championship points and crossed the line in 17th position. The 32-year-old Australian had started from 23rd place on the grid und moved up to 17th place on the second lap, but couldn’t maintain his rhythm and dropped back again, holding 21st place by mid-race. On lap 16, he mounted another attack and moved ahead in the group he was in to take 17th spot, but by that time, the front runners were too far gone to break into the point rankings.

Team-mate Rafid Topan Sucipto achieved his goal of a race finish, but was not as consistent as he had planned to be and lost his rhythm when the front runners of the race started to close in from behind. After learning the difficult Indianapolis track, the teenager from Jakarta now looks forward to the next new challenge at Brno in the Czech Republic next weekend.

“My start was okay, but in the beginning I just was not able to do any decent lap times. I don’t know why, I just found it hard to really concentrate properly this weekend. I was a bit lost on the first laps and couldn’t do good lap times. As the race went on, I started to go faster, but the group was already gone and any chance of making some good points was already too far away. I was sort of stuck with the group I was with and I was able to fight with them and lead them to the end of the race. But all in all, it was a difficult weekend for me. The team is doing a great job and the bike is working pretty well, but I just need to concentrate more and try to be a bit more focussed on my racing. I was using the new swingarm all weekend, but it’s difficult to predict how much of an advantage it will give us on other tracks, because Indianapolis is so strange with its different surfaces. We will continue to use the new swingarm at the next race in Brno and I hope it is an improvement there, too!”

“I was nervous in the race and I lost a lot of extra time when I moved over to let the front runners pass. It wasn’t a very good race, but I didn’t have big problems either and at least I managed to make it to the chequered flag on this difficult track. Next week in Brno, I want to push harder, but at the same time, I also want to be calm and relaxed!”

Anthony West Officially Renew Contract with QMMF

Anthony West were already listed on the provisional 2013 Moto2, but he just officially renew the contract with the QMMF team at Losail after his double victory on the Qatar International Road Racing championship.

The Australian rider was taking part in the second round of the Qatar International Road Racing with a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and won both races with a big gap.

Rafid Topan Sucipto to Replace Anthony West at Valencia

Indonesian rider Rafid Topan Sucipto will replace Anthony West for Valencia race this weekend. This replacement was confirm after Anthony West is not appeal for the anti-doping case.

Rafid Topan Sucipto is a 600cc Supersport Asia Road Racing class from Indonesia. He will making his grand prix debut this weekend along with Elena Rossel on the QMMF Moto2 team on the Moto2 season finale at Valencia

Pol Espargaro Wins Phillip Island, Marc Marquez World Champion

Pol Espargaro takes domination on the Moto2 race at Phillip Island circuit today by 16 seconds ahead from Anthony West and Marc Marquez. Anthony West did a very good race, takes his podium on the last lap against Scott Redding and Marc Marquez. Marquez retakes his podium on the last second after took over Scott Redding. Marc Marquez also crowned today at Australia for the new 2012 Moto2 World champion.

West confident despite new set-up problems - Rosell aims at a safe race finish

Team QMMF rider Anthony West continued to work on a new set-up for his Moriwaki prototype racer on the second day of practice for the Portugal Grand Prix, but made a step into the wrong direction during qualifying and had to settle for 26th place on the starting grid. For the race tomorrow, the 30-year-old Australian will go this one step backwards, but will maintain the higher chassis position that helped him to do competitive lap times in the free practice sessions.

Team-mate Elena Rosell battled hard and managed to further improve her lap time at her first Grand Prix on the difficult Estoril circuit, but still holds 31st position on the starting grid. The main aim of the only female rider in Grand Prix racing is to finish the race tomorrow and to gain as much experience as possible.

 “Anthony is putting in the maximum effort to get the maximum out of the bike, and his analysis of the situation is correct. Moriwaki promised us that we are going to have the new bike for the next race at Le Mans and we are very happy with that. Anthony is a great rider who pushes hard and who he is determined to achieve some strong results this year. We are working together side by side and he has our maximum support. Together, we will be successful for sure”, said FIM vice president and QMMF team owner Nasser Khalifa Al Attiyah. “Elena competes for the first time at a Grand Prix here at Estoril and she needs time to learn this circuit and all the other tracks in the championship calendar. The most important thing for her is to finish the races and to gain race experience. It was a pity that she crashed out of the last race at Jerez and I hope she’ll be able to make it to the chequered flag here at Estoril. She has the potential to be very competitive and the fact that she has such an experienced rider as a team-mate will help her to get the knowledge she needs!”

“I am not as happy than I was yesterday or this morning. This morning it was easy to do a lap time of 1.42,6 minutes and I did 1.42’s quite consistently. Now in qualifying it was nearly impossible to do 1.43’s because I had to fight so much with the bike. We have made radical changes all weekend long in order to get the best out of the bike here at Estoril, and now we made another small change with the springs and it threw the bike completely out of balance. I was sitting on the back wheel again and I couldn’t open the throttle on the corner exits. It’s a small thing but with big consequences. If you go a little bit the wrong direction, the bike doesn’t want to turn any more. Tomorrow, we are going back to the setting we had this morning and we will also try something that we had in the race in Jerez and that should also help to get more weight on the front. If we can do that, beating the other Moriwaki shouldn’t be a problem for me!”

“Qualifying is over and I brought the bike home in one piece. The other good thing is that we went faster by about half a second from session to session, so we are on the right track. My main problem is that the bike moves a lot when I open the throttle on the corner exit, and since I had this pre-season injury, right now I simply don’t have the physical strength that I had last year to control the bike. I couldn’t exercise for a month and a half, so even though I was able to repeat my best time several times, it was a very tiring qualifying session for me. Once I am back to full fitness, I will be able to go faster for sure. But considering it’s my first Grand Prix here at Estoril, things aren’t too bad!”

Big changes make a big difference for West - Elena Rosell gains confidence at Estoril

With a drastic change to the set-up of his Moriwaki Moto2 prototype racer, Team QMMF rider Anthony West turned things his way and achieved a promising 17th place on the first day of practice for the Portuguese Grand Prix. Since the 30-year-old Australian had came aboard for the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix, he had played with a higher seating position in order to get more weight on the front for better turning. Now at Estoril, he lifted the entire bike with a variety of changes to the front fork and rear suspension and improved his lap time by more than a second. This new set-up confirms the next development step of the Moriwaki chassis with a different engine position, which will arrive at the race track very soon.

West's team-mate Elena Rosell also completed a successful first day of practice at Estoril. The only female rider in the motorcycle Grand Prix racing started cautiously on a partially damp track in the morning, but gained confidence and speed as the day went on and ended up in 31st position.

"When I first rode this bike at Qatar, I had a problem with too much weight on the rear of the bike. We then played with padding on my seating, which pushed me forward and improved the weight transfer and the feeling in the turns, but it wasn't enough. Now, we've moved the whole bike up by 20 mm, pushing the front fork down the triple clamps and heightening the rear shock with a different linkage and stuff like that. It was a bigger change than you would normally be doing on a race weekend and it took me really the whole session to understand what was going on because it was quite different, but in the end, we went clearly faster and we are quickest Moriwaki once again. This change sort of confirms what we need with the new chassis. The engine where it is now is way too low and we don't have the pitching and easy turning in the middle of the corner that we need. The bike is stable but it doesn't feel nice when you get to the middle of the corner and doesn't turn fast enough either. Being able to confirm what we need is an important step for us!"

"We went out on a partly damp track this morning and it cost me a while to find my confidence, because I crashed in the race of Jerez one week ago in similar conditions. From this point on, we kept improving and I kept learning the track. We also got better lap times, which I managed to repeat quite consistently. My hope for tomorrow is for better weather that will finally dry up the damp patches around the track. It also became obvious once again what a tough and hard-fought category Moto2 really is – the fastest guys rode quicker than the CRT bikes in the MotoGP category, which is mind-boggling. All we can do is to keep fighting and to keep learning. But considering it was only my second time on this track today, things didn't go too bad at all!"

West storms to 16th and just misses a point, Rosell out of the race with an early crash

QMMF Racing Team rider Anthony West was one of the sensations of today's Spanish Moto2 Grand Prix. The fearless Australian, who handles treacherous track conditions like nobody else in the World Championship, ignored damp and slick patches around the half-dry Jerez circuit to storm from 29th place on the starting grid to an impressive 16th place when the race was red-flagged because of another rain shower. With just another half lap, West could even have finished in the point rankings.

Spanish team-mate Elena Rosell also felt good on her Moriwaki bike today, but ran into bad luck when she got caught out in one of the damp sections of the track and crashed on lap five. Luckily, the only female rider in Grand Prix racing didn't get hurt and now looks forward to racing again at Estoril next week.

"Just before they put the red flag out, I had passed Iannone, so I was quite upset when I realized the race was finished and I had missed out on a championship point. If they had waited 30 seconds longer, I would have passed the finish line in front of Iannone. But never mind, we did the best we could in very difficult conditions today. The bike was the best it has been all weekend thanks to the changes the team made to the set-up, but in order to be fully competitive, we need a big change on the bike itself. I know that Moriwaki is working very hard and that they have been testing a lot in order to be able to come up with a modified bike very soon, hopefully for the Grand Prix in Le Mans!"

"I ran into bad luck and crashed in the Nieto corner. In the Moto3 race, a whole bunch of riders has gone down there due to a remaining patch of water, and the same happened to me. I had a highsider and tried to hang on to the bike, but in the end I wasn't able to save it. I was especially upset and angry about the incident because I was making progress. I could match the lap times of the guys in front of me and there were many more laps to go in which I could have improved further and gained positions. But then, this corner came and I went down!"

Elena Rosell continue improving and learning

Elena Rosell was officially made Moto2 full season debut on Qatar GP early this month. This lady racer was started this season with unperfect conditin. Her pelvis is much better, but the shoulder isn't going well yet.

For the next race at Jerez, Elena Rosell only targetting improvement on lap time, and learn more about the new bike. Elena made 2 start with Suter on 2011 season, and now she's with Moriwaki. 

According to motocuatro.com , Elena says that she is very happy with the team and they support her a lot. His father also help her to work with the new equipment on Moriwaki, Elena also says that the new bike is more difficult. The positive point is Anthony West who joined last minute on Qatar has explained the problem of Moriwaki bike to the engineers. And now they work for improvement of the bike. Elena hopes that the input from Anthony West will make bike getting better
