Valentino Rossi will Race on Sic Supermoto Day

Valentino Rossi has already confirmed to participate in the event organized in memory of Marco Simoncelli, from which all proceeds will go to the “Marco Simoncelli Foundation”. Rossi will run in tandem with Frenchman Thierry Van Den Bosch, four-time Supermoto champion.

Double World Superbike champion Max Biaggi, who recently announced his retirement from racing, will also be participate on the event teamed with Adrien Chareyre.

The endurance-style team event will be held over 58 laps on the December 1-2. Practice and qualifying will take place on the Saturday, with the race on Sunday.

Other riders who listed on the entry list are Andrea Dovizioso, Mattia Pasini, Michele Pirro, Simone Corsi, Michele Fabrizio, Danilo Petrucci, Karel Abraham, Luca Scassa and Andrea Iannone.

Tribute to Marco Simoncelli at Sepang

Starting from the San Carlo Honda Gresini team pit box, the team Simoncelli rode for last year, people made their way to Turn 11 on the Sepang circuit, where team owner Fausto Gresini placed a permanent plaque in his honour. After this there was a moment’s silence, followed by a round of applause, then a two-minute silence.

On the eve of the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, the event at which Marco Simoncelli lost his life last year, MotoGP riders, teams and people from the paddock alike paid tribute to the late Italian rider at the place of his tragic accident.

Simoncelli Foundation Receives Gilera RSA 250

In the Aprilia Racing headquarters the number 58 Gilera RSA 250, the bike Marco Simoncelli rode to the category world championship title in 2008, was handed over to Paolo Simoncelli today. 

Astride Aprilia Racing bikes, the unforgotten "Sic" had begun to gain notoriety in 2002 with his unique style and good natured ways, characteristics which soon made him a favourite with the fans. Winning the 250 World Championship was the peak of an exciting path, fed by strong ties on both a personal and sports level. 

"Marco is an important part of history for Aprilia and the entire Piaggio Group - said Luigi Dall'Igna, Technical and Sport Director of the Aprilia Racing Division - With us, astride the Gilera 250, he won a World Championship and thrilled millions of fans, leaving an indelible mark on the world of motorcycle competitions and in the hearts of those who had the good fortune of working with him. Marco was a good rider, tenacious, courageous. But in all of our hearts, we will always hold that kid with the 'Romagnolo' accent, so tall that he had to struggle to cram himself into the GP bikes, who could make the entire garage smile just be being there". 

Also present at the delivery was Aligi Deganello, crew chief to "Sic" in the 2008 world championship season: "The Foundation is the best way to remember Marco, a guy who knew he was lucky and precisely for that reason he tried to help the less fortunate. Seeing this bike always has a strange effect on me because I think back on how hard we worked and on the joy of the World Championship we won with Marco". 

The Marco Simoncelli Foundation was created with the intention of sustaining humanitarian projects for the needy, especially young people. The goal of the Foundation is to promote the commitment of sports to society, based on the values for which Marco was a genuine and sincere ambassador. 

"Another special day, another gesture that fills the hearts of our family in memory of a victory which made Marco happy and proud: on 20 October 2008 astride this bike he achieved a dream he had always had - said Paolo Simoncelli - I can remember that even in primary school he had a very clear idea of what his goal was: 'one day I'll be world champion' was the phrase that appeared most often in his diary and on that day, astride the Team Metis Gilera, that dream came true. Many thanks to Aprilia again today, as then".

San Carlo Honda Gresini Back in White

From the Italian Grand Prix onwards Team San Carlo Honda Gresini will return to their traditional white colours in MotoGP. The joint decision between the team and main sponsors San Carlo was passionately supported by the Simoncelli family. A video of the emotional transformation “Back to White” can be seen on the websites www.gresiniracing.com and www.sancarlo.it 

Fausto Gresini  “Seeing the white livery on our bikes again was incredibly emotional. The choice to race in black was out of respect for the memory of Marco and to send out the message that he will never be replaced. Several months on Marco remains in our hearts and his fans have been very vocal to me saying that they would like to see the return of the one thing that most reminds them of him. Now we are back in white and my heart feels like it will explode.”

Road to London for Sic Charity

The charity motorcycle ride “Road to London for Sic” concluded on Thursday as Marco Simoncelli's helmet was delivered to the Riders for Health stage at Silverstone. 

Their arrival was greeted with a rapturous reception from the thousands of British fans at the circuit for the annual 'Day of Champions', who applauded the 14 Vespas into the circuit at the end of a mammoth road trip that started in Morciano last Friday. The helmet went to auction along with a commemorative “Road to London for Sic” jacket and framed photo. The helmet fetched an incredible £2,000 and the jacket and photo a stunning £650 each, raising a total of £3,300 to be split 50-50 between the Marco Simoncelli Fondazione and Riders for Health.

Flashback Silverstone 2011: No Podium for Yamaha Factory

Wet Silverstone 2011 placed Casey Stoner on the top of the race. Stoner started from pole position along with Marco Simoncell and Jorge Lorenzo at the front row.

Double Repsol Honda riders, Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso take the lead from the begining of the race. Stoner then created gap and Dovizioso fight for the second place with Lorenzo and Simoncelli.

In the middle of the race, double Yamaha factory riders, Ben Spies and Jorge Lorenzo crashed. Spies first, then Lorenzo 1 lap after. Marco Simoncelli also crashed 2 laps after.

Andrea Dovizioso finished second, and third place of the podium went to Colin Edwards from Yamaha tech 3.

Misano Circuit now as Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli

Misano circuit change its logo to Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. This morning the new logo linking the Romagna circuit to Marco Simoncelli. The logo was introduced during a press conference, in which Paolo Simoncelli, Marco's father, was also present.

Aldo Drudi was create the effective image. The result of the designer's is a combination between traditional logo MWC Misano World Circuit together with the name Marco Simoncelli where the 'double l' evokes the red stripes of Sic's helmet.

Flashback Catalunya 2011: Stoner Win, Duo Yamaha Factory on Podium

Catalunya 2011 wrote Casey Stoner as the winner. Marco Simoncelli took the pole position on the race. Stoner and Lorenzo started from the front row.

Unfortunately, Supersic didn't make a good start and drop to 6th on the opening lap. Agressive start from Spies, Dovizioso, and Rossi, placed them on the from group with Lorenzo and Stoner. Lorenzo lead the first lap, but Stoner take the lead on the opening lap 2.

An accident between Hiroshi Aoyama and Randy De Puniet, made them out from race on lap 3. 

Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo start to create gap from the others on lap 5. Spies, Dovizioso, Rossi and Simoncelli were on the 2nd group, battle for 3rd position.

White flag out on 13th lap, but race still continue with the same bike setup. 7 laps before finsih line, Spies make gap to Dovizioso, while Dovizioso also a little far away from Rossi.

There is no change in the position of the drivers until the end of the race. Stoner wins, Lorenzo 2nd, and Spies 3rd. For the first time in 2011, Yamaha puts 2 riders on podium.

Flashback Le Mans 2011: Stoner Win, Rossi Got Podium

France GP last year on Le Mans circuit named Casey Stoner as the winner. Dovizioso and Rossi also filled the podium. For Stoner, the Le Mans 2011 victory was the 2nd victory on 2011, but for Rossi, it was the 1st podium ever since he joined Ducati. Valentino Rossi only got 1 podium with Ducati until now.

The 2011 race was started with Casey Stoner as pole man. Casey Stoner was dominate all Le Mans session, from FP1 till race. Marco Simoncelli and Andrea Dovizioso was also started from front row. While Valentino Rossi the 3rd winner, started from 9th position on 3rd row. Honda's riders, Stoner, Pedrosa, Simoncelli and Dovizioso lead the race after start. In the middle of the race, Stoner made gap and the battle was begin between Dani Pedrosa and Marco Simoncelli for 2nd place. 

Pedrosa was crashed after an incident involved Simoncelli, and Pedrosa got a collarbone injury after. 6 laps before race over, the race direction was gave penalty to Simoncelli. Simoncelli from 2nd place, had to  enter the pit and down to 7th. But Simoncelli finally finished on 5th. 

On the 3rd group, Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Dovizioso, and Valentino Rossi were looked for 3rd place. After penalty given to Simoncelli, Rossi goes 2nd, and Dovizioso and Lorenzo were still tailing him. 4 laps before finish line, Lorenzo was wide. Rossi and Dovizioso made gap to Lorenzo. On the next lap, Dovizioso took over Rossi and got the 2nd place on race. Rossi was finished 3rd.

Flashback Estoril 2011: Pedrosa Win, Rossi Missed 4th on Last Inches

Last year Portugal GP was belong to little Spaniard, Dani Pedrosa. Start from 3rd position behind Jorge Lorenzo and Marco Simoncelli, Pedrosa took the 1st podium 4 laps before race over. Pedrosa made a good acceleration on the Estoril longest straight, took over Lorenzo on the turn 1 and lead until the end of the race.

The crash drama also happened on the first lap. Marco Simoncelli and Hector Barbera were separately crashed on first lap, on the same turn. Both of the couldn't continue the race. Karel Abraham also crashed on 2nd lap. Other rider who not finish on that race was Ben Spies.

Another great battle on Estoril last year was between double Italian, Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi. Both of them were fight for 4th position. Valentino Rossi still lead on last turn on last lap. Unfortunatelly, Andrea Dovizioso took over him on the longest straight of Estoril, just a few inches before finish line.

This year after 2 laps on Qatar and Spain, we see that Honda and Yamaha still dominant. Last year, we saw Ducati can fight with factory team. Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden show better progress on Jerez, and confident for this race. Let see if Ducati can do better on Estoril this weekend
